UTW przy SGH
The University of the Third Age at the Warsaw School of Economics - a site for students of retirement age, where digital accessibility is a statutory duty rather than a nice extra.

- WCAG 2.1, required by law
- AA
- link contrast, against 3.24:1 in the SGH palette
- 5.49:1
- redirects from old addresses
- 238
- WordPress
- Motyw autorski
- WCAG 2.1 AA
- Deklaracja dostępności
Challenge
Under Polish law an association working for people of retirement age counts as a public body, so WCAG 2.1 AA and a published accessibility statement are mandatory and fineable, not optional. The client also wanted to keep the university's colours - and the link colour on sgh.waw.pl contrasts at 3.24:1 where 4.5:1 is required.
Approach
We wrote a custom WordPress theme instead of bolting on an accessibility overlay widget, because an overlay fixes nothing. The palette was recalculated: links moved to a darker shade from the same university family, contrasting at 5.49:1, so the site still reads as the school and passes an audit. On top of that came a text-size control, content migrated off the old Elementor build with redirects from every former address, the accessibility statement, and an editor role in which the office adds news but cannot break accessibility.
Outcome
The theme cleared an accessibility audit with zero errors across all twelve templates. The site runs on the association's own domain, its statement is published, not one old address was lost on the way, and the client now runs the content themselves.
